The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Republic of Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina was signed on 3 July 2002 in Ankara and entered into force on 1 July 2003. The Agreement was amended through a Protocol in 2010 and the Protocol on Rules of Origin was amended in 2011.

In order to update and expand the coverage of the FTA into services, both Parties signed revised Agreement on 2 May 2019 and the revised FTA entered into force on 1 August 2021.

There are no tariffs and non-tariff barriers in Turkey for all products originating in Bosnia-Herzegovina, except for some live animals and meat and meat products which are listed in Annex II of the Agreement. As well, there are no tariffs and non-tariff barriers for all products imported into Bosnia-Herzegovina originating in Turkey.

In addition, parallel to the negotiations of the revised FTA, Turkey has provided tariff-rate quotas for meat originating in Bosnia-Herzegovina for a 5-year period starting from 1 July 2018.

Moreover, in order to eliminate the difficulties caused by the dramatic rise in imports of wheat flour, glucose and sunflower oil from Bosnia-Herzegovina and as provided in the relevant provisions of the FTA, imports of the mentioned agricultural products are restricted to tariff-rate quotas.

Turkey-Bosnia-Herzegovina FTA also regulates many areas such as sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property, rules of origin, internal taxation, anti-dumping and countervailing measures, safeguards, and balance of payments measures, trade in services, government procurement and dispute settlement.

The products which will benefit from the preferential tariffs should fulfil the rules of origin set out in Protocol I of the Agreement. Chapter III and Chapter IV of the Agreement covers Trade in Services and Government Procurement.
