Consumer prices in Germany rose by 2.2% in 2024 on an annual average basis compared with 2023. The rate of inflation was +5.9% in 2023, as high as +6.9% in 2022 and +3.1% in 2021, on an annual average basis. In December 2024, the inflation rate, measured as the year-on-year change in the consumer price index (CPI), stood at +2.6%.
The year-on-year rate of price increase excluding energy and food, often referred to as "core inflation", was +3.0% in 2024, after standing at +5.1% in 2023 and +3.8% in 2022.
